Sheung Yiu Country Trail is an easy walk which is suitable for is suitable for any reasonably fit person. The total elevation is just under 150m winding through the forest. There are great views out over the Sai Kung islands and golf course and the dirt track is usually not too busy on weekends for a tranquil escape from the more popular trails. We will start the walk along the riverside path passing the ancient village of Sheung Yiu. There is a small folk museum where we stop for a short visit. We will continue along the route passing the old limekiln and a small church before climbing the stairs up the hill and onto the dirt trail. The path winds around with a little undulation. Some parts are a little rocky so do wear good shoes. Near the end of the trail we will have a good view of the High Island Reservoir before descending to the Reservoir road. Those who wish can choose to descend to the bottom of the dam or just enjoy the view over the reservoir.
Hikers can choose to wait for the minibus or catch a taxi at the dam (it can be busy and there will be a wait on weekends), or walk the remaining 4.5km along Maclehose Section 1 Road to the Pak Tam Chung Country Park Gate.
