This is a relatively easy walk on a paced path on the former military road near the border with the Mainland. This was part of the formerly ‘closed area’ of the New Territories. There are good views over Hong Kong and towards Shenzhen. The road climbs fairly gently over four hills, but we will go slowly to keep the group together. The hike will take approximately 3 hours.
TRAIL HIGHLIGHTS
Start at Fu Tei Au, Sheung Shui and proceed to Wa Shan, which resembles the Great Wall. Walk up to Tai Ling Stele and take a look at the stone tablet erected during the Daoguang reign of Qing Dynasty. Get a view of San Wai/Tai Ling Firing Range from afar and continue along the ridge. The trip ends when you arrive at a rock nicknamed “Ta Tung Tung Shek” in Wo Keng Shan. The route is mostly on an old military road with occasional sections of village roads.
After completing the hike, it is possible to walk down Ping Che Road for about 15 min to the Wun Chuen Sin Koon Taoist Temple. There should be a large display of Chrysanthemums.
